The problem
Willis Owen is a relatively small direct-to-consumer business focusing on customers – both old and new – who wish to manage their own financial future, but with a helping hand.
We offer several services that help, support investor decision-making, this is delivered through Chat, secure email, email and our award-winning customer service team. The communications we send to customers cover a broad range of subjects, not just the how, but the context of investing and the considerations, insights and thoughts.
In 2019 we needed to re-energise our approach, freshen up our language to really engage our audience. We had used internal staff to deliver these insights previously, however, I needed someone who had a broad range of experiences, a writer with not only consumer knowledge but one who understood the dynamics of our industry.
The solution
Having worked with Sam at my time in an advice business, and Sam being a guest writer for Willis Owen a few years ago, I had followed her progression into a freelancer and a ‘brand’ name in financial services – when the time came to find the individual, with the flair we needed, I immediately contacted Sam.
Sam took on the task of writing our weekly insight article, but soon became a counsel to the business with regards to the broader communications and marketing vision. Sam supported various workshops, bringing her experiences to guide our thinking. Sam now works with our Head of Communications & Content, as the right-hand woman, and is integral to our future story.
